![]() ![]() Now that I think about this, it may have been Blake Stone and Castle Wolfenstein (still 2.5D but very grid based maps, unlike Doom) that had the arrow key setup, and Doom had the newer WASD configuration, but also contained an option to switch back to the older style. You can't really fault them, at the time Doom 1 had a similar key setup, and I don't remember if one of the Doom updates (1.4, 1.666, or 2) or Quake pushed that new sequence as default (or some combination like that). If I remember right, instead of the WASD keys you were supposed to use the arrows, and Shift/Ctrl/Alt/Space for running?, shooting/punching, manipulate object, strafing etc. UW had jumping, so if SS has jumping, we know it's lineage. Falling, yes - usually to your death, but no jumping. Also, IIRC, Doom and SS did not have jumping. You know it's a 2.5D when you do a strafing turn around an object, and the object in your camera FOV turns as well. I do remember it was based on the Doom (or was it Ultima Underworld.) engine, so it was 2.5D. I don't remember if it was 320x200 MCGA (it was - but I guess I didn't mind/notice since my monitor was only 13"). Submit a new deal Submit a question/PSA Reddit New Deals Popular Deals Meta ![]()
